Ana Maria Kumarasamy

Associate Programme Officer in Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter, COBSEA

Ana Maria Kumarasamy supports the implementation of the Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter (RAP MALI) at COBSEA, with a particular focus on the MA RE Design project, implemented in collaboration with GIZ and WWF.

Before joining UNEP COBSEA, Ana earned her PhD in Environmental Politics from Lancaster University, UK, where she also completed a Master’s degree in International Relations. During her PhD, she worked as an associate lecturer in politics and international relations and served as a research coordinator at the Richardson Institute, the UK’s oldest peace and conflict research center. Ana’s research and work primarily focus on the effects of waste and plastics on people and coastal and marine ecosystems.
