Reo Kawamura

Reo Kawamura has spent over 20 years as a government official in Japan’s Ministry of the Environment (MOE), focusing on environmental policies related to climate change mitigation, biodiversity, sustainable fashion, and Japan’s environmental policy framework. Since July 2023, Reo has been leading the Environment Unit and the Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). His current work includes developing an online knowledge repository on plastic pollution, coordinating with institutes across ASEAN, creating toolkits to prevent plastic leakage from the recycling industry, and promoting behavioral changes to reduce single-use plastic consumption.
