Wijarn Simachaya

President, Thailand Environment Institute

Dr. Wijarn Simachaya is a prominent leader in environmental management and sustainable development in Thailand. As President of the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) and Secretary-General of the Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD), he drives key initiatives in environmental policy and sustainable business practices. He also chairs the Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Plastic and Waste Management (PPP Plastics), collaborating with international organizations, public-private agencies, and civil society to advance sustainability efforts.

Dr. Simachaya has represented Thailand in global and regional forums, including the UN, ASEAN, and the Mekong River Commission (MRC). His leadership has been instrumental in creating policies like the ASEAN Haze-Free Road Map and the Bangkok Declaration on Marine Plastic Debris. He has served on national committees for the Bio-Circular-Green Economy and coastal resource management.

His government career includes roles as Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, Secretary-General of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Dr. Simachaya holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph, Canada, and multiple honorary doctoral degrees from leading Thai universities, reflecting his extensive contributions to environmental science and education.
